What are your favorite movies? Old, new, whatever! No limit to how many favorites you can have, but if you want to start with a list, that would be cool.

Or not. ;-)

LiamFan! August 8th, 2001 05:51 PM

Okay, these are TOTALLY off the top of my head. If I gave it serious thought, the list would probably look much different.

A lot of these are movies that, if I happen across them on the dial, I leave them on. Some I own and have watched dozens of times. Others, I've seen once, and they've stayed with me.

East of Eden
Wizard of Oz
Barton Fink
Beautiful Thing
Jacob's Ladder
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Harlan County, U.S.A.
Fight Club
Jaws

...to start

{{{{{Les}}}}} I found it! <g>
I'll list (off the top of my head) a few movies that I really like that have made a lasting impression on me, too:

Fight Club
Crash
War of the Worlds
Wizard of Oz
The Star Trek movies
Galaxy Quest
The Doors movie
Willow
The Princess Bride
The Commitments
The Song Remains the Same
Matrix
Snatch
The Full Monty
Interview with a Vampire
Hells Angels Forever (documentary)
Rambo
Lethal Weapon (I)
Born Free
The Quiet Man
Conan the Barbarian
Ben Hur
Harold and Maude
Trainspotting
Easy Rider
A Clockwork Orange
Lost Highway
Braveheart
Rob Roy
Pink Floyd: The Wall
The Shining
Chocolat
The Right Stuff
Heavy Metal (animated)
Dark Star (best cheesy B movie)

Ok, that's plenty...for now! <g>

LiamFan! August 10th, 2001 10:13 AM

A lot of common threads in those movies, Terri.

Phenomena is one I'd forgotten about...I'll have to watch that again someday!

Serpico...I love that movie.

Spirit August 10th, 2001 02:51 PM

American History X
City of Angels
The Truman Show
To Kill a Mockingbird
Stigmata

Terri August 10th, 2001 03:03 PM

And The Band Played On

kathe nichols August 10th, 2001 04:11 PM

for starters

the original Star Wars trilogy. (My daughter thinks Phantom Menace is a better movie, but not having lived pre-Star Wars, she has NO idea of the impact it had...!)

City of Angels

Creator (it's set in what is now my home town)

Aladdin (the only Disney that didn't make me want to scream by the fifth time I saw it. Who knew that Robin Williams could sing?)

The Breakfast Club

George of the Jungle (for sheer silliness, it can't be beat)

Phenomenon

Michael (no, I'm not all that fond in general of John Travolta, just those 2 movies)

Powder

The list of things I watch if I happen to catch them on TV is just too enormous to list!

Cinderellen August 14th, 2001 05:40 PM

Ok... off the top of my head I would have to say:

Braveheart
Gone With The Wind
Terms Of Endearment
The Original Star Wars Trilogy
Steel Magnolias
Johnny Dangerously
The 1st Lethal Weapon
Philadelphia
The James Bond Movies

These are movies that made an impact(one way or another :) ) on me... I am not necessarily suggesting you run out and rent Johnny Dangerously :cringe:

LiamFan! August 14th, 2001 06:21 PM

I have to add "Requiem for a Dream" to my list after seeing it this past weekend, although it is definitely not for everyone.

Terri August 14th, 2001 09:36 PM

Midnight Cowboy

Lou August 15th, 2001 02:08 AM

Chinatown
The Graduate
Rocky Horror
Manhattan
Annie Hall
E.T.

Terri August 23rd, 2001 10:49 PM

Dances With Wolves & Field of Dreams (the only two Kevin Costner movies I ever really enjoyed)

Schindler's List

Hairspray

Serial Mom

Cry Baby (did I mention I am a John Waters fan? hometown boy makes it big in cult film circuit)

A League of Their Own

bikerxena August 26th, 2001 04:53 PM

Okay, I have to credit this folder and my friends who post here for turning me on to two new (to me) movies this weekend.

{{{{{Les}}}}} Thanks for recommending "Requeim for a Dream." You're right, it's not for everyone, but I watched it yesterday, and it was so powerful it gave me goosebumps. I taped it, so I'll definitely watch it again.

{{{{{Kathe}}}}} After seeing "Powder" on your list, I watched it when it came on cable today, and wow, what a movie! Thanks for reminding me about that one. I had originally intended to see it when it came out, and had forgotten about it until I read it on your list.
