Gestational Diabetes
As many of you know the Dr.s say I have gestational diabetes.
Last week they gave me Glyburide pills to take. Dosage 2.5. I took for 2 days and both days I was sicker than sick could be. Called me OB and she said sounded like sugar bottomed out because of pills and not to take them anymore. Went to Dr. on Friday and because the pills bottomed me out, they want me to do insulin shots. Dosage
HI-210, 10 units twice a day and HI-310, 20 units twice a day. To me that is alot. They say it wont affect to baby, BUT, I am not silly. What goes in my body the baby gets, right? Anyway..

I know alot of you ladies are smarter than me. And give good advice. ;) Should I go for a second opinion? I mean try a total diff dr? I have asked numerous times for a 3 hour sugar test and they wont give it to me. So then I think hmm maybe I should go and get a second opinion. I don't want Joshua to get sick if I DON'T need the insulin shots.. Know what I mean?

Any advice would be great!

Thanks Ladies

Having gestational diabetes go unchecked or untreated can cause issues for the baby as well. Some women end up using insulin to control it even while pregnant. Along with the insulin, your doctor should have had you meet with a dietician to develope a meal plan. Meal planning is crucial for a diabetic, whether it's Type I, Type II or gestational. Also, if he/she perscribed the pills without having you see a dietician, I'd ask why. Could be your diet reacted with the meds to lower your sugar. although my doc said the meds don't actually lower the sugar, just helps your body regulate it's own insulin.

Yep, met with a dietician, we worked out a meal plan that best fit me. I am following it (the best I can) ;) But the way she has it is that I eat a little and stay away from carbs.. Only allowed a certin amount a day now. I other words she is trying to starve me.. ROFL..

I have been monitoring my sugars daily. Every time I eat I have to check one hour after and two hours after, need to stay between 80 and 140.. Unfortunaly I shoot up to 250 at times still.. Started the shots this morning against my better judgment. Think they hurt DH more than me.. I am not sticking a needle in my tummy, made him do it.. ROFL..

Have a great day and a better Monday yes Monday.. LOL

Are you keeping a food diary? If not, I would. That way when your sugar shoots up you can tell which foods to avoid. All diabetics react differently to foods. She absolutely right about the carbs. Carbs turn into sugar which causes your high readings. Pregnancy causes everything to go out of whack including the way some womens naturally produced insulin works.

If you haven't checked it out yet, the American Diabetes Association has a great website complete with recipes.

Most doctors suggest eating 6 small meals a day to help regulate your sugar.

I hope you get better, and take care of yourself. So when are you due?? Do you have a support system in place???

(((( DLC )))))
You are so helpful.. But then you already knew that, right? ;)

Yes, doing the diary.. Have to take it along with my test results to Dr. every Tuesday and Friday.. They look at them and say well don't eat this anymore.. I am a HUGE ham freak.. And I can't have it :( Well at least not now.. Eggs have been causing some issues also.. Pasta and steamed veggies seem to be working, that is as long as they are in moderatioin. Half a cup here and a half of cup there. Kid is gonna come out looking like a noodle :D

My due date is the week of 10-26, but with him just shy of 9 pounds when I go for my 7th yes 7th US the first they are going to let me know when I will be delivering this little bundle of joy. I am in the 90%tile of having a 10+ pound baby.. Not sure if that is good or bad. I look at it this way, if he is healthy, let him be until he is ready.. Know what I mean? Already have admit papers done. I look for them to take him the first or second week of October. Everything with him looks great. Lungs are good, he is doing great at practicing the inhale exhale motions. All his organs are developed just the way they should be.. Oh and you can see hair in the US pictures now.. I need to scan the ones from last week and put them on here.

Have a great night ladies..

Don't work to hard tomorrow :)

DLC is correct about the journal and about seeing the dietician!! I had it when I was pregnant with Chris, my sister just had it when she was pregnant with Serenity... both babies are well and fine! ;) Chris is 15 and Serenity is almost 3 months old!! :)

Keep us posted on yourself and the little guy. Keeping a food diary is very good. Take it with you when you go to the dr's.

Some females end up using blood insulin to management it even while expecting. Along with the blood insulin, your physician should have had you fulfill with a nutritionist to grow a diet strategy. Food preparing is essential for a type two diabetes, whether it's Kind I, Kind II or gestational.
