Okay, everyone, here it is. If you want a place to tell us all what you've been eating, and what you've been doing, either to enlighten us or yourself, or keep on track, here's the place to do it! Come by every day, or just once in a while.

Last Monday I was going to go to Weight Watchers BUT it was President's Day. I am going next Monday though. That's my goal :)

Monday
? Go to Weight Watchers

I can put in here what I've done in the way of exercise and what I've eaten, but if I have to put my weight down, I'm sunk. I just can't do that.

DrHilieWho February 24th, 2001 03:32 PM

Ignoring the scale is a good thing for a lot of people to do. I need the routine, it gets me motivated, but how much you weigh doesn't really have much to do with how healthy you are.

((((tupi)))) Maybe we can find some good low-fat/low-cal recipes to swap. Although they'll have to be pretty easy to make if they will survive in my kitchen LOL

WoooHooo! I made my goal!So what's next?

I am going to make a meal plan today for this week. Generally I go for two weeks at a time, but since it's something new I think I should take smaller steps...see what's working and what isn't.

How are the rest of you doing? :)

LiamFan! February 26th, 2001 04:19 PM

I'm doing pretty well. I had a loss last week, and hope to have another this week. I've been keeping track, and staying within my point range, although I usually eat too few points and that doesn't help ones metabolism.

I also did some research on thyroid and metabolism and, because I'm convinced that the enlargement of my thyroid has had some effect on my system, I looked into what one would do vitamin-wise if one had a sluggish thyroid.

I started taking L-Tyrosine and kelp, and hopefully it will help, in addition to my exercise regimen and my improved eating habits. I'm optimistic!

I have been walking each day. It helps to have a little puppy ball of energy that DEMANDS her daily walk. Sometimes I go two miles sometimes just 1 or 1 1/2. I know that does not seem like much but it's more than I was doing. I have also cut out fried and junk food and cut way back on carbs. My right knee is getting bad so no more aerobics like I used to do. And really that is forcing me to get serious.

I keep leaving chocolate in other folders. Am wondering what that means when I am trying to lose weight.
My mother would do that... "Oh, you look great would you like some chocolate cream pie."
Sorry, off the subject, I think. Just wondering though if some of you are battling against those types of things.
Lost 6 lbs. last week and now have lost 1 this week.
Last week was my beginning week.
ps... I love the way everyone can express themselves... sorry if I write like a bulldozer.

kathe nichols February 28th, 2001 12:44 PM

just getting back to it. I went to a conference recently and there were many many (or so it seemed) "large" women there not much more than my age, walking with canes or walkers. Scared me! I need to get serious.

I'm even thinking about going to meetings, just for the discipline. The problem is, the motivational stuff just stirs up my inner cynic and makes things worse...

So I'm just trying to track my totals on my own and weigh myself at the chiropractor's office since I'm there every week.

Can somebody explain to me about activity points?

LiamFan! February 28th, 2001 03:24 PM

kathe, you earn activity points when you exercise, depending on the amount of exertion. You can either use those points for more food, or you can lose weight faster because of them. :-)

and antiana, bulldozers move the Earth!!! {{{{antiana}}}}

I signed up for Weight Watchers eTools today, and it is WONDERFUL. You can keep your journal online. Now for me, this is one huge motivating factor. I'm more likely to do it on the computer than on a piece of paper, with a pen.

Which reminds me...we ate at a Chinese restaurant for lunch, and Danielle tried to ask the waitress for a pen. The waitress spoke very little English and, even with pantomime, thought Danielle was asking for a spoon. Danielle was infinitely polite and patient with her, but it was funny to witness! {{{Chinese waitress}}}

An Amy Tan moment no doubt :)

I'm with you tupi, I won't put in my weight, yet....BUT...I will the loss...which is another 3 lbs..taking me to 15 total so far. YEAH! I can also start in the gym at work as the doc cleared me Monday. No RA, its bursitis and the exercise should help as long as it's in moderation. We have this very old antique scale at work in the alcove that I use every Monday morning to weigh on..it's very accurate and agrees with the one at the doc's office. I love it when I break a 0 or a 5 and watch that arm slowly rise to the top:)

((((antiana)))) chocolate was the hardest thing for me to give up. I have to admit, I cheat every couple of weeks and go for the bar.... any other sweet is usually sugar free and as long as I can keep it from my son, I'm in good shape, lol!

Another thing that was hard, was sitting in front of this computer and not munching. I have found that as long as I keep a straw close by and the sugar free candies I found near, I'm not struggling as much as I first did.

The BEST thing is my son and sisters and dad. They are very supportive and push me to keep going by asking me how I'm doing, applaud my progress and my son makes sure he doesn't eat all my goodies!

My goal is 30 lbs by July. That's 1 lb a week for the next 16 weeks. I CAN do this right??? YES!

LiamFan! February 28th, 2001 06:37 PM

Absolutely doable. A pound a week is an excellent rate!

DrHilieWho March 3rd, 2001 11:38 AM

I'm not doing too well on the eating aspect, but I've been exercising a lot. Hopefully that will make SOME difference.

antiana March 3rd, 2001 11:31 PM

From what I have read and experienced 1 pound is really the most you should try to lose. Remember 3,500 calories equals a pound. So try to cut out the crappy foods and move more.
Being older my insides really don't like the weight leaving. I sometimes imagine the larger of the fat cells sending pain messages to my brain and the only thing that helps is to eat.... I read that somewhere once. LOL
And I am starting to believe it. So am eating brain food so fat cells won't win.. lol. Does anyone have the list of brain food? I know that tomatoes, broccoli, and
steam spinach are brain type foods. Well, I imagine anything packed with natural vitamins would be good for anyone's brain.:D
