Post your thoughts here!

It's hokey, it's trite, it can make my inner cynic scream bloody murder. But mostly I like it. (In fact, it's a good guage of whether I'm depressed or not...)

Love is Everywhere
by John Denver

chorus:
Love is everywhere, I see it
You are all that you can be, go on and be it
Life is perfect, I believe it
Come and play the game with me

Open yourself to the first celebration
Open yourself to the joy and pain
Life is the fruit of your own creation
Every new birth is a soul regained

Chorus

Drinking my life from a silver fountain
Sweet water running to the cold salt sea
Old man moon* on a white top mountain
Sound of the wind singing dreams for me

Chorus

Follow your heart like a flying stallion
Race with the sun to the edge of night
Form your truth like a gold medallion
Dance in the circle of the love and the light

Chorus
(repeat and fade)

*this is not the only song where Denver refers to the moon as masculine.. what gives with bucking the dominant paradigm? :::grinning but also a semi-serious question:::

Nice folder idea Kathe! I wonder if there is a place where you can find song lyrics on the net. I'd like to find the lyrics to a couple of Judy Collins' songs. I don't know the name of one of them... I think it's something like The Carousel of Life.

kathe nichols March 29th, 2001 12:34 PM

tupi, you could try The International Lyrics Server. They have a lot. Or ask LiamFan about her sources, she seems to be able to find anything!

Is that Judy Collins song the one with a chorus that goes something like:

The seasons, they go round and round
and the painted ponies go up and down
We can't return, we can only look
behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
in the circle game.

? OH, typing the chorus reminded me - it's called "Circle Game!" Let me go see if they have it... umm, they say it's Joni Mitchell, but they don't have the lyrics. Give me a few days to find the tape it's on and I'll get back to you!

That's the one, Kathe! Thanks!!

Hi guys! Don't know how I missed these messages :-\

Here's the lyrics to The Circle Game (one of my favorites :0)

THE CIRCLE GAME

By Joni Mitchell

Yesterday a child came out to wonder,
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar.
Fearful when the sky is full of thunder,
And tearful at the falling of a star.

And the seasons, they go 'round and 'round,
And the painted ponies go up and down.
We're captive on the carousel of time.
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came,
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.

Then the child moved ten times round the seasons,
Skated over ten clear frozen streams.
Words like "when you're older" must appease him,
And promises of someday make his dreams.

And the seasons, they go 'round and 'round,
And the painted ponies go up and down.
We're captive on the carousel of time.
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came,
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.

Sixteen springs and sixteen summers gone now,
Cartwheels turn to car wheels through the town.
And they tell him, "Take your time, it won't be long now,
'Till you drag your feet to slow the circle down."

And the seasons, they go 'round and 'round,
And the painted ponies go up and down.
We're captive on the carousel of time.
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came,
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.

So the years spin by and now the boy is twenty,
Though his dreams have lost some grandeur coming true.
There'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams, and plenty.
Before the last revolving year is through.

And the seasons, they go 'round and 'round,
And the painted ponies go up and down.
We're captive on the carousel of time.
We can't return, we can only look behind
From where we came,
And go 'round and 'round and 'round in the circle game.

She is one of the least commerical and most powerful writers!!!! I have every CD she ever made. I adore "little Green" and "Cold Blue Steel"

There are many clips of songs that are fascinating to me. My all time favorite in regards to love/relationships etc has to be by a song that Cher sang (I know I am really proving my Geekiness today)
it goes:

When love is truely right
It lives from year to year
It changes as it grows
And, oh the way it grows
But it never disappears.....

You know, I may have even gotten a few words incorrect in my interpretation but thats how I sing it!!

I had a freind who, many years ago thought the chorus to the song "Jump" was: Maxwell Jump (as opposed to "might as well jump") I still laugh when I think of her belting out the verse at the top of her lungs at a party, as I tried in vain to prevent the beer in my mouth from spewing past my clamped lips.

John Lennon

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Last time I heard it was the day after he was shot, and they were playing all his songs. I like "Long and Winding Road" too

This is just one line off the new Tool album, but it's a good one.

"Cold silence has the tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion." I like it best because of the way Maynard sings it, long and drawn out.
