New Year's Resolutions 2007

http://members.iimetro.com.au/~jagg/images/jaggnew.jpg

Rapidly approaching the New Year here in Australia. What are your New Year's Resolutions, if any? How about listing them, and then seeing how long we all keep them.

Mine is to get my cholesterol down to an acceptable level. It was high last time it was checked, and the doctor has given me advice to try and get it down with a diet change, or else I'll have to try other things.

How about you?

:)

(((((((Jagguar)))))))))))

Good luck with your resolution. Maybe you could share some hints in here. They may help others with high cholesterol. Thanks Jagguar.

We love having you chat with us, we love having you around. So we will help each other. ^5

My not a resolution ( resolutions seem to have a way of being broken by me) So my Not a resolution, but promise to myself :) Is to eat healthier, More fruits, and veggies. By eating healthier the #s will come off.

The thing is we all know how to eat healthier.
Eat 3 meals a day. (Never skip breakfast) That's the one if you skip you get hungrier during the day. More likely to snack. )
6 smaller meals are better for us. Less likely to get those snacking urges.

Snacks... Keep fruit ready, apples, bananas, oranges, pears, peaches etc. Veggies a light spinach salad. brocolli, cauliflower, etc...

See knowing and following though that's the issue. Will work on that as a promise to myself.

A Happy Healthier New Year to all :))

i'm with you Irish.

there are a few promises I am starting as well:

Remember that I matter and it's ok to be first sometimes.

Treat myself with respect.

Exercise of some kind on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for at least 20 minutes straight.

Eat breakfast every day.

;)

those are mine...wanna guess which one I break first?? ;)

Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! It's already New Year's Day here in Australia, and so far, I have stuck to my lower cholesterol resolution. Heh. Had fruit for breakfast, and for lunch I plan to make myself a salad.

Exercising regularly is a much harder thing to do if it is not your habit. I remember one time getting up every morning at 6 am to go swimming. Couldn't do it now, though I did it for almost 2 years. Got very fit though, as a result.

RE the low cholesterol tips, I have a friend who is a dietitian who has given me lots of tips, and reading material to check out. The main thing is to eat less if you are overeating, and to limit total fat intake.

To limit total fat intake, strictly limit butter, margarine, oil and salad dressing. Instead of oil in a salad dressing, have it without, or use lemon juice or orange juice or something like that.

Remove visible fat from meats, and grill instead of frying.

Choose low fat (or no fat) milk and yoghurt. Low fat cheese.

Limit intake of avocado, olives, olive oil, nuts.

Limit egg yolks to 1-2 per week.

Limit consumption of seafood.

Dietary fibere can help lower cholesterol - wholmeal or oats and oat bran. Have fresh fruit and vegies with skin where possible. The white pith of grapefruit for instance, has a cholesterol lowering substance in it.

Limit or omit alcohol, because of the effect on triglycerides.

Limit intake of soft drinks, sweet biscuits, cakes and slices - set limits for these treats.

Oh, and one very significant contributor to high cholesterol is stress. If you are stressed, then do things like meditation, yoga, listening to calming music, relaxing in other ways to reduce your stress level.

:D

Happy Healthy New Year .....

To One and All!

I have chosen not to have any New Year's Resolutions. Instead I plan on keeping promises I have made to myself. At least I know who to blame if I dont succeed. But I do know who to thank all the same. No not myself of course but the Creator/the Lord. Yet I am wishing all of you a Happy Healthy Safe New Year. So you may be happy and healthy as well as fruitful in finances.

Have a great day!:)

Hugs and Kisses to Roomies WOW's TF's
