ok sorry, i have to stick with my original idea as still being a big possibility. this comes from both my own expereince at that age, and a now nineteen-year-old son. When I finally made him do it, it was fine, and he is now in job corps and learning HOW to be on his own... and he loves it. But if i hadnt pushed,( although i did it while I held his hand in comfort and with a loving hug btw), he would still be here at home watching tv and doing nothing... even HE says that. I am not saying fear is not a part of it... but if he doesnt do what he must... the fear will take over and he wont have a life!!
