Smile Parent , Blind With Alzheimers Out There, Any Takers.

IT BECOMES INCREASINGLY DIFFICULT TO EXPLAN TO MY FRIENDS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LOOKING HEALTHY AND HAVING DEMENTIA VS. ALZHEIMERS. CAN YOU RELATE.

I can. My aunt died of Alzheimer's and I have worked with many folks with dementia and Alzheimer's over the years. They are very different diseases and different approaches are used when dealing with someone with either disease.

It's also important to remember that many medications can bring on dementia and Alzheimer's like symptoms that can be helped with a medication change.

Dementia takes many forms with different names and types and is often mistaken for Alzheimer's disease. Early detection is crucial in treatment and safety. One thing common to all however is the ability of an otherwise healthy person to mask that they are having a problem hindering diagnosis.

my father has atypical parkinsons disease and alzheimers....it's difficult to distance yourself from their anger and outbursts. Both parkinson's and Alzheimers have their dementia problem but finding your way between the two is difficult. He chooses me and my step mother for his angry outbursts and me more than my step mother. He can be hateful and rude, but with others he is sweet and vague. He seems to choose me the most to be hateful and rude can't quite figure out the reason for it either.

I'm also a health care worker, specifically an RN, but sometimes his behaviour baffles me.

((((((Sabra)))))) My grandfather, his mother, and 2 sisters all had alzheimers. It manifested itself very differently with each of them. My grandfather became docile for the most part. My great-grandmother, his mother, became mean and beligerant. I watched how my family took care of thier ailing parents and spouses, and what a drain it placed on them. My heart goes out to you and your family. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

rj, well he died May 17th, peacefully, painfree and with great dignity. I'm very thankful for this. I was the only one with him and, I feel it's one of the greatest gifts he ever gave me, choosing me to be there when his spirit flew.
