Baking with kids

For the first time, my adored 11 year old Aidan showed a huge interest in baking cookies and of course, because it's the christian holiday season, we, the two us embarked on the long, hot, messy, sticky, time consuming, fun marathon of holiday cookie baking for the past two days. We had a terrific time, he never once complained about all the dishes and stuff which goes with baking, the time it takes, nor did he ever leave to go play with friends. He learned part of the benefits of baking are...
1. You get to eat hot cookies right out of the oven

2. You get to sample the cookie dough

3. You get to bake the cookies you want

4. You have lots of fun.

I'm enormously proud of and extremely pleased with him. He asked intelligent questions, listened carefully and fired up the hand mixer in true, male fashion......... he held the mixer in the air, as if he was going to pull the cord on a gasoline powered saw and let er rip, sending cookie dough in the air, around the kitchen and of course all over his face. It was wonderful, hadn't laughed so hard and so joyously in weeks.

It was truly great fun ((((Tiffin))))) and he's already asking when we can bake more. Told him we had to eat all the cookies we've already made, then we'll make more. Also told him, this doesn't mean he gets to eat them all in a week either!

What a relief!!! I saw the topic "Baking with Kids" and got a little worried. I've never known the correct sugar and cinnamon ratio for kids.

Sounds like a great and yummy time!

Wink

The correct ration for cinnamon and sugar to a child is what ever amount covers their faces, so you can't see the horror when you place them in the oven

ROFL to you all.

Just so you know the basis of my sick mind... when I saw the baking with kids I thought of that Twilight Zone episode, "To Serve Man." If you've seen it, then you'll understand. <g>
