Go see K19 the widowmaker - excellent story and true too

Also see Signs, I know it got lousy reviews but it is Mel after all and the little girl in that movie is adorable as is the latest product from the Culkin's and Joaquin Phoenix is a thousand percent talented! Loved it.

I liked Ya Ya. The acting was really very good, and I think Ashley Judd did a great job as the young Ellen Burstyn. The most surprising thing? My husband liked it even more than I did. Go figure.

Let's see, this summer, I've seen "Late Marriage" (excellent!), "Lovely & Amazing" (don't miss Annie!), "Sunshine State" (my California fix), and "The Fast Runner." "FR" is an Inuit film, three hours long, acted by Inuit people, and it is fascinating and gorgeous. If it comes your way, take three hours out of a lazy afternoon and see it.

I understand completely Liam. Amelie is available as a 2 disc set with a lot of extras. I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out and the DVD is definitely something I need to own in order to really see it all. How's that for rationalizing yet another purchase?<g>

I saw The Good Girl this weekend. Wow. Jake Gyllenhaal was amazing and everything that was said about Jennifer Aniston is true. She gave an incredible performance. The movie is billed as a dark comedy but I don't know that I would bill it as anything other than very dark drama with a comedic moment here and there. If you're looking for complete escape and relaxation I would not choose this film. I thought it was wonderful, but it is a very bleak and gritty slice of life. In my opinion, of course. :-)

I'm hoping to catch Lovely and Amazing this week before it disappears from my favorite little theatre.

Monsoon Wedding is another great little film that should be available for rent soon, for anyone who missed it.

Saw Blood Work, I liked it. It's sad to see Clint Eastwood looking so old, and the love interest part is a bit of a stretch but I enjoyed it.

Oh, I think Clint still looks great. Man, the guy is 72 years old already!

I do know what you're saying, though, Terri.

I saw a TV movie yesterday that really disturbed me...it was a 1996 movie called 'Murder at the Door' with Judith Light and Johnny Galecki. Yow. It blew me away.

I saw it a few months ago. I know that many people and critics absolutely loved it, but I thought it was just okay. I felt it sort of missed its mark somehow. I think it will be a much better rental than top dollar in-the-theater movie.

I wait to rent most movies, unless they have spectacular special effects that need to be seen big. I am going to rent Amelie soon and I think I may try Greek Wedding.

On another note, I finally watched Beautiful Mind. I thought the acting was really good, but something about the story just didn't sit right with me. If I ever put my finger on it, I'll post, lol.

How about I Am Sam? My husband wants to see it, but it just doesn't look good to me.

There was a lot of criticism of A Beautiful Mind because of its unrealistic portrayal of John Nash's struggle with mental illness. It leaves you with an impression that he was hospitalized once, and then they handled things on their own. In reality, he was in and out of the hospital more than a dozen times, but the feeling was that seeing a character in and out of a mental institution that many times would be too grueling for an audience. (I agree, by the way. I think the number of backsliding incidents in the film were grueling enough already.)

Then again, I love this movie and have seen it too many times to count, so...

I Am Sam is worth seeing if you're interested in Sean Penn's performance which was amazing. He was truly incredible. However, I thought the story was rather contrived. It seemed to be more of a "movie of the week" to me.

I loved A Beautiful Mind. At first I was a bit hesitant to see it because there was so much hype that it was turning me off. But, the film won me over within the first few minutes. I enjoyed it so much more than I ever thought I would, partly because it wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be. In this instance, I thought it might be a "movie of the week," but was I ever wrong. And, happy to be so!

I went this week to see My Big Fat Greek Wedding. IT WAS WONDERFUL. I loved every minute of it and it was soooooo funny! This was the funniest movie I have seen in ages. I think everyone can relate to it even if they are not Greek.
