Java Chat is still in the process of being added. It may be a few more days before you'll be able to access it.

I downloaded the 6.3 version of mIRC on my computer without any issues. (An accomplishment for my computer!)

Someone told me in chat the other night that Pirch is still able to be used although there are many edited versions of it by many different people.

www.mirc.com is the site for mIRC

Are there any posts here about the bail out? I cannot find anything. This bail out will have a serious impact on our lives for years to come. I would like to know if it scares others as much as it scares me.

Everything scares me, not just the bail out. It is going to take years to recover from what got us into needing the bail out. The bail out is icing on the war cake, on the spending cake, etc. I think our only hope is if Obama gets in there and can make sure that the bail out is handled properly. What McCain is proposing rewards those who made the loans and encourages them to do it all over again.

I think the reason you aren't seeing any posts about it is because everyone is so burned out, at least I know I am, from watching the news, reading everything I can find, and talking ad nauseam to family and friends in 3d.

The bright spot every night is watching The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. While they go over it again and again, at least they make me laugh about it. I consider them real news, even if they don't.

Sadly, they aren't on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So tonight it will have to be Real Time with Bill Maher.

But first, Countdown with Keith Olbermann followed by The Rachel Maddow Show.

Wow, topic drift.

What's scarey is that the bail out only helps the companies it's bailing out. It doesn't help the people who are causing, example, the mortgage companies who are reeling from foreclosures. To me, the only thing that does is to solidify the companies so they can continue to operate and foreclose. Which isn't really solving the problem. And that's just one example.

If things continue how many more bailouts will it take before we say enough is enough?

I'm not saying we should bail out the folks who are losing their homes, but how about a little help so they can pay their mortgages and not face foreclosure? Which in turn would help the companies who are in trouble.

Maybe that's too easy. Or maybe I'm missing something.

But that's not really all it does. That's why I said Obama needs to get in there to make sure it's administered properly. I realize it wasn't the best plan, but it was the one they were able to pass. It does help the banks who made the mortgages, but what that does is free up the credit again so that small businesses and people can begin to take out loans again.

For example, right now, many small businesses are unable to order their stock for the holiday season because they can't get their loans. The bailout is supposed to free up the credit making those loans possible. It should also makes loans available for home buyers and refinancers. Without the bailout none of it could happen.

Again, this bailout wasn't the preferred one, but it was the only one they could get passed in such a short time. It was certainly orchestrated to happen this way as a bailout plan was written months ago but never shown to the congress.

Or make their payroll, in some cases.

We're hoping the issues don't affect social services since we're medicaid funded. Since social services is one of the first to have funding cut, it's definately a possibility. Although I did read they are trying hard to make sure that doesn't happen. Our region helps support other regions who aren't as profitable and that could change pretty fast should medicaid be forced to change their policies and practices.

Anyone else watching/reading the news feel like we're back in the 60's/70's?

I can tell you what scares me so badly and it isn’t just the bail out.

We were told there was to be a 7M bailout monies to help the banks and to help people from losing their homes. But I heard several reporters say that the only reason that the bill passed was because “pork barrel” was added to it. The “pork barrel” was an addition 1.5M to bail out Wall Street!!!

I was listening to a show on CNN last night; I think the man’s name was Bennett. He had 4 economists on there talking about the bail out and how the gov. seems to think they have to save everybody, both in and outside of the U.S. They all agreed that the problem we have to day has been caused by greed. Greed by people buying houses they could not afford, greed by the banks by making that financing available, and greed by the gov, mainly the Treasure Department, for not taking steps to oversight the banking institutions. We don’t have the 8.5M dollars that are going to be doled out, it will be worthless paper!! Does the gov. think we are stupid???? I neither want the gov. to own “non voting stock” of any banks they bail out. It should be a loan that has to be paid back. Nothing is free.

Okay, I was going to be nice, but heck, it says this thread is not for the faint of heart. The news has been full of McCain and his rallies. They are fairly noisy when he shows up, but get out of control when Palin shows up. It was reported at one of these out of control rallies that some one yelled out “shoot him” meaning Obama. I hold McCain responsible for that action. The rally should have been stopped and he should have been man enough to step forward and tell his audience that enough was enough and that statement was highly inappropriate. The poor FBI, how could they find the guy who yelled it out? He certainly didn’t step forward, nor did the people around him.

I believe in my heart that McCain is using racial prejudice against Obama. As an American I find this shameful any situation, and makes me ashamed of the Republican Party for letting it happen.

I am no spring chicken. I saw John Kennedy get shot, I saw Bobby Kenney get shot, and I saw Ronald Regan get shot. I did not see Martin Luther King or the governor of Alabama get shot, but I do remember the news reports. I don’t want these horrors to take over our country again.

There is a perfect sentence in “Pride and Prejudice” “…what I would like to know is how much is this going to cost me and how am I ever going to pay it back?” In my opinion our debt is not only money, but our ethics as a country as well.

KraftyKid I did see them all get shot . Never will forget it.

How can people vote for someone who does NOTHING but take giant steps backwards. Sadly it won't be just the economy that will need desparate repair if McCain gets in office. (shudder).

Honestly I thank him for his service time in VietNam. However the man has no clue nor does he care to get a clue on how the rest of the population survives.
Survives barely in a lot of cases.

Health care alone would be non negotiable for a lot of people. With her by his side it would be 1000 x worse.

Myself I don't believe in aboration. HOWEVER that is my personal choice. Who are they to decide what is correct for everyone else???

Steps backward. BY his not putting a stop to that rally, or at the very least speaking up saying that type of prejudice would not be tolerated.... he showed his true colors!!!!!

If they (shudder) were to be elected into office. The country would fall so far backwards I don't know that we could recover. It would take years.

Please talk to your friends, your neighbors, your relatives. We seriously need the right people in office. As I see it the only viable ones at this time would be

Obama & Biden ... they both look people in the face when they talk. They make a lot more sense. WE CAN"T AFFORD McCain & more of the same.

I, too, am part of the generation who saw the murders of the Kennedys, King, et al. I am also scared to see how bad this country will become if McCain/Palin win the election. They are both so hopelessly out of touch.

Irish, I, too, must applaud McCain's 'Nam service. But service (and being a POW) in 'Nam does not make a president any more than being, say, a doctor or firefighter makes one presidential material. One has little or nothing to do with the other.

Abortion...I support a women's right to choose. Granted, I've known one or two women who have used this as their only means of birth control, which, IMHO, is wrong (use a condom!!!). That said, though, I have no right to tell another woman, "You must get an abortion," any more than someone should tell me, "You can't." I have a very definite story as to why; I'll tell it only if asked. (Whether or not anyone asks, it won't hurt my feelings either way.) But the punchline is that I shouldn't force anyone into an abortion or into carrying a child any more than either outcome should be forced on me.

On a lighter note...the first of my 'maters in my "victory garden" is ripening!!! (Had to end on a positive note...)
