((((((((((( Addie, PBS, Minty ))))))))))))) (((((((everyone ))))))))))))

There is a pumpkin full of holes.. Dare you to put your hand in one to see what you find!!!!

Could it be "worms" ( spaghetti) or "slime" (jello) or "eyeballs" ( gum balls ) ...

OMG Did I ever tell the story about the time I was in first grade. Imagine this if you can. You are 6yrs old sitting up the front of the classroom. Spot something rolling on the floor out of the corner of your eye. Eeeek it's an "eyeball". This really happened and we all believed the little girl's eye fell out. Of course years later we realized the child had to have had a glass eye. Nuns didn't explain that to us. When I went home from school that day told my mom about it. she smacked me for telling stories that weren't true. But it was true. What did we know about glass eyes way back when.

LOL Irish...

Well, I can tell you plenty about buckles and valves... I have both in my eyes. They call them "appliances." Great... That makes me sound like a department at Sears. I've found that if you laugh about it, people are generally more at ease and believe they can ask you questions.

Sure, some questions might not always be the most appropriate, but I'm pretty open about talking about it all. Talking about it helps dispel myth and fear and prejudics, so I'm all for that.

Maybe I could have given the sisters a few pointers, huh? Tee hee.

Oh, and before anyone cringes or gets any wild ideas, I should mention that "buckles" are not the same as those icky things the Pilgrims have on their shoes. A scleral buckle is a piece of plastic or silicone that encircles part of the eyeball. In some cases, it's a ring that encircles all of it. It's to keep the retina in place following a detachment. You can read more here.

My Dad had the same thing done on both of his eyes. He had a partial seperation of his retina, in each eye about 2 months apart. Now, thanks to you, I can finally find out what all that meant. His vision is good now (also had cataract surgery in both eyes) but he does have gloucoma. It's about time for me to get checked out! We have insurance again, so I can also get new bifocals. Mine make things worse now so I use the dime store cheap reading glasses and squint alot. LOL!

((((((((((((((PoohsBigSister)))))))))))))))

Start with small steps to get in the mood.
Play Christmas songs.
Does your shopping area decorate their windows? If so take a walk/ ride and look at them.
Put on a kids Christmas video.
Light some Christmas scented candles.
Have the kids make gifts.. Something my mom had for years was a "jewelry box" my oldest daughter made her when she was a child. ( A cigar box, different shape pasta,(bows etc) gold or silver spray paint, a piece of felt(for the inside ) and a small mirror.. angled to look like diamond shape.

I'm so sorry that you are out of work. Myself I think there is something better waiting for you. Wish you lots of success in finding it. In the meantime take time to enjoy each day. Do something nice for yourself. Know that we are all pullling for you.
((((((((((PoohsBigSister)))))))))))))) extra hugs just because.

((((((((((((((PBS))))))))) Sometimes it is hard to get in the Holiday Spirit. I wasn't really in the Holiday Spirit for a few years after my mother died ( she died during the holiday season). You got to do what makes you comfortable but at the same time don't be such a bah humbug that your friends and family won't want to be around you.

First of all, honor yourself and your feelings. Sometimes we just don't feel like feeling happy. And that's perfectly okay. It's okay to be sad or glum when things aren't going so well.

The suggestions above are great ones.

Sometimes doing things with people you love or doing acts of charity for others less fortunate helps put a different spin on things.

Here are some other suggestions:

Go through the closets and take inventory of any old clothes you and your family may not want anymore. Bring them to a fire hall, your Red Cross, a battered women's shelter.

Volunteer with a soup kitchen.

Bring non-perishable food items to your local food bank.

Take a walk through a street that has houses all decked out in holiday fashion. Enjoy the lawn displays and holiday lights.

Go skating.

Have a cookie decorating party with some neighborhood children. The older kids can use the cutters and help bake, and the younger ones can "glue" the decorations on the finished cookies.

Buy a tabletop tree and invite each family member/each of your children's friends to make an ornament to put on it.

Make a family tree with favorite family photos. Tell stories about each person represented.

Visit a nursing home or extended care facility. Bring stuffed toys or puppets and put on a show for some of the residents. Talk to them. Offer to play a board games or cards.

Make a "hope box" for yourself: put inside it anything that makes you feel happy and hopeful. Look through the box and think about the items inside any time you are feeling sad.

Make a snowman/snow angels.

Give and receive lots of hugs.

{{{{{ Poohs }}}} I hope these suggestions help. I suggested some of these because helping others sometimes makes us feel better and helps put things back in perspective.

Good luck, hon.
