She had been scribbling so subconsciously, that it was only when she went to close the cover of the journal, she realised what she had drawn. Instead of the usual flowers and stars, or the hearts and fashion that were her hallmark, she could clearly see the profile of a strange face. 'No', she thought, 'not so much a face, as an emotion.' And it chilled her to the bone!

She peered closely at the sketch, leaning in close, then pulling back, holding the picture at arm's length.

It didn't look like anyone familiar, but the chill wouldn't leave her.

She looked at it a long time before closing the book, slowly, carefully, opening it one more time to take one more glance at the face.

A sharp intake of breath and she slammed the cover shut.

The face had changed.

Her heart raced and the sweat poured down her face as she tossed the journal onto the floor.
"It just can't be!" she gasped.

Marian hurriedly finished her packing. Her emotions were all jumbled. She had to get away from the face as fast as she could.

As Marian reached to pull the door shut, she sighed as she took in all that was familiar. As she turned to leave...

the phone rang.

"You're late."

Marian glanced around the room. That's it? No 'hello,' no 'Is this Marian?'

"You're late, Marian."

Marian narrowed her eyes. "Who is this?"

"Marian, it's nearly 7 o'clock. You were supposed to be here by 6:30."

She moved slowly about the room, gathering her bags into one place, near the door. She opened her shoulder bag and slipped the journal inside. "I'll be there as soon as I can," she said, hanging up and calling a cab.

(thanks for your kind words, annebebe!)

It started to pour before the cab arrived. What dreadful luck she was having. Frightful faces in her journal, strange men calling her and telling her she was late. Now of all things she and her luggage would be soaked before she got there.
The cab pulled up and honked its horn. With a heavy sigh Marian beagin to gather her luggage to leave.

As the taxi swung onto the dock, the MSS WOW loomed into view. What a glow of expectation it gave off, in the damp drudge of the surrounding wharfs. Porters scurried to her assistance, and she quickly found herself escorted up a festive gangway.
"Love Boat or the Poseidon Adventure?", she mused happily. "Whatever, just bring-it-on"!

Great, Liamfan. You'll have to decide which way the story goes!

<Deck 4, Cabin 30>
Although the cabin was compact, it was designed in the latest black and white zigzag wallpaper, with glass and leatherette furniture. "Cool", Marian told the porter, as just then the telephone on the bedside table thrilled. She was beginning to find phones very unpleasant. "Thank God I don't have to carry one!", she laughed aloud. The porter, who's nametag said he was an 'Always here to please' Paul, chuckled as he closed the cabin door.
The breeze through the porthole gusted to a threatening roar, as she lifted the receiver..........

" Hello, dis is zee chef down in zee kicthen. You ordered room zervice." The strage french man said.
" Umm.... no I haven't used this phone untill I just picked it up." she said a bit releaved.
" No! No! I know it is you who called. See I have zee paper for zee order right here. you are Marian No? " he asked her.
" Well yes...but I didn't order anything. " she insisted.
" I do not have time for zees! Your order she is ready! Zee waiter will be right over with it. " the chef told her with a great deal of irration in his voice.

"That is the worst Chinese accent I've ever heard", she said aloud. The wind whistled away her thoughts, and she knew a shower would settle her unsteady sea legs. As the water eased away uncertainty, she heard the cabin door open.
"Oh, for goodness sake, what do you think this is, Psycho?", she shouted to the intruder. " We're in the 70's now, you know". She grabbed a Charlie's Angels complimentary robe, and stepped out to meet her love interest!

She walked out into the cabin to find noone there. The only thing that was in the cabin was her and a new smell. It was the most ungodly oder she had ever come across. She noticed that the cabin dooor was open just a crack. Funny she could have swore she had heard someone enter the room. But she knew she had closed the door. Now the door being opened a crack made her feel uneasy. That smell was bring tears to her eyes. It smelled like someone had left a side of beef out for a month. She started to look around to see if she could find were the oder was coming from. The lights flickered, she felt a chill go down her spine.

Unfortunately, Marian had the radio playing, and the local station's tribute to Hitchcock added to her unease. She reacted as anyone in a 1970's thriller may be expected to - She panicked! Wanting only to leave her cabin to whomever the intruder was, she opened fully the door to the corridor, and fell headlong over a side of very odourous beef.
"What the...", she began, but stopped in mid thought, as her eyes focused on the most handsome sailor she could have imagined, standing to one side of the doorway. Stammering, and pointing towards her cabin, she watched as he jumped over the carcass, disappearing through the entrance. There was a short sharp scuffle, followed by a prolonged silence. Marian carefully gathered herself together, and peered into the gloomy interior.
