I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but if it isn't, please point me in the right direction! <G>

My 13-year-old daughter has never been a big eater, but it's getting harder and harder to feed her. I know she isn't anorexic, but she hates meat and isn't too keen on beans. Now she has become lactose intolerant, so she can't eat cheese, which she lived on. The only protein she is getting is through Lactaid, the lactose-reduced milk. I don't know what to feed her! Help!

Oh my. Well I imagine you'll eat what is on your plate and like it is a no no. Lol, was in my house also.

Seeing as she is 13 her hormones are kicking in.
I really think a check up and a talk with a nutritionist is in order.
Egg whites are a good source of protein and with her being thin.. the yolks wouldn't hurt. But only 1 or 2. hmmmm no meats at all. She needs iron also.
How is she with veggies?
But I would absolutely take her in for a check up.

Thanks, antiana! I have to try to sneak some eggs into her. I hadn't thought about that. Fortunately, she does like veggies, so we eat quite a few. And I give her vitamin supplements. We were at the doc's this morning because she has an ear infection, and our doc suggested I get soy protein powder and mix it in her Lactaid. The horrormones are definitely kicking in! LOL

I don't know how she is on snack foods, but if she likes vegies you could try a plate of celery sticks filled with peanut butter. Or maybe peanut butter on crackers?

Did you ever try to get her to be vegetarian? She can get plenty of protein by eating tofu, and you could get some tasty bean recipes that she would like. There are also healthy meat substitutes out there, such as seitan, also known as wheat gluten. These don't have the large levels of saturated fat and cholesteral like meat does, so she won't have to worry about major problems down the road. Vegetarians have the lowest rate of heart disease out there. And soymilk or ricemilk is a good milk substitute.
Also, people don't need as much protein as the meat lobby would like you to think. In fact, too much protein is the main problem. It causes an acidic condition in the blood which leaches minerals out of your body, such as calcium from the bones. This is why there is a large instance of kidney stones in big meat-eaters; it is almost nonexistant in a completely vegetarian individual. You don't have to worry about protein deficiency; the disease of protein deficiency is virtually only known in third-world countries. Eating too much protein causes the well-known diseases: osteoporosis, obesity, liver disease, and kidney failure.
You may next wonder about calcium deficiency. This is not a problem either. In fact, you can't absorb the calcuim in dairy, as the high levels of protein prohibit the calcium from being absorbed. Calcium is abundant in dark leafy greens, broccoli, almonds, chick peas, soybeans, figs, carob, and sea vegetables.
Iron can be found in leafy greens, dried fruits, broccoli, wheat, peas, beans, and dulse (a sea vegetable).
Please seriously consider a vegan diet. I have been vegan for 8 years (actually I am macrobiotic, but don't eat fish), and I have not been to the doctor for any sickness. Anything I come down with, I cure myself very easily with food.

Thanks for the good suggestions, DrHilieWho. Unfortunately, peanut butter seems to upset her stomach. :-(

Zoe, actually I think C is really a vegetarian. I'm trying to get her to eat tofu (I have managed to sneak it into spaghetti sauce), and she has a soy drink in the morning. She doesn't like beans. This child is really difficult to feed! You're right about not needing so much protein. We do eat too much meat. I'm filing your other suggestions. Thanks! You will probably hear from me! :-)

Thanks for the great advice to get fruits and veg for everyday Nutrition for our body!
But my mom! careful about me and her family health. She everyday cook something special related to veg or non-veg, depends on the spring cooking schedule. She give me diet of great suppliments too to always look me healthy. I love her so much

Well let me tell you that you have a great Mom be glad for it jonspaker! Now kennyjoyy I lost sixty pounds on purpose changed my way of eating and etc and guess what? I am now a Type 2 diabetic. Yet I am doing what I can with what I have to improve and keep that under control. So the choice was made years ago in genetics that I would get this disease. Yet I am now controlling it as long as I have my meds. My A1C aka blood sugar count 6 months ago was up to 7.8 now its back down to 6.5. Hope to get it lower if I can. Have a great day! I know I will for no more idiots around for a good part of the day! LOL

Hi dear,

Fresh fruits and vegetables are very beneficial for our health.
They keep us fit, active and healthy and fight against a number of diseases.
The more beneficial fruit and vegetables are apple, orange, grapefruit, banana, grapes, dates, carrot, broccoli, radish, pumpkin, and cucumber.
