Silent Legacy
Melissa Ethridge

Your body is alive
But no one told you what you'd feel
The empty aching hours
Trying to conceal
The natural progression
Is the coming of your age
But they cover it with shame
And turn it into rage

And you pray in your darkness
For wings to set you free
You are bound to your silent legacy.

Live

Inspiring words (for me that is) from Live

I've willed, I've walked
I've read, I've talked
I know, I know
I've been here before
Now we won't be raped
Now we won't be scarred like that

Time to wake up this folder!! From a new CD I really like:

Little Victories
by Matt Nathanson

this time i'll be sailing
no more bailing boats for me
i'll be out here on the sea
just my confidence and me
and i'll be awful sometimes
weakened to my knees
but i'll learn to get by
on the little victories

this time i'll have no fear
i'll be standing strong and tall
turn my back towards them all
and i'll be awful sometimes
weakened to my knees
but i'll learn to get by
i'll learn to get by
on the little victories

and if the world decides
to catch up with me
that's a little victory...

The Stranglers---Skin Deep

Many people tell you that they?re your friend
You believe them
You need them
For what?s round the river bend
Make sure that you?re receiving the signals they send
?Cause brother you?ve only got two hands to lend
Maybe there?s someone who makes you weep
And some nights loom up ahead
When you?re asleep
Some days there?s things on your mind you should keep
Sometimes it?s tougher to look than to leap
Better watch out for the Skin Deep
Better watch out for the Skin Deep
Brother watch out watch out for the Skin Deep
Brother watch out watch out for the Skin Deep
Better watch out for the Skin Deep
One day the track that you?re climbing gets steep
Your emotions are frayed
And your nerves are starting to creep
Just remember the days
As long as the time that you keep
Brother you better watch out for the Skin Deep
Better watch out for the Skin Deep
Better watch out for the Skin Deep
Brother watch out watch out for the Skin Deep
Brother watch out watch out for the Skin Deep
Better watch out for the Skin Deep

Wishing for Dreamers

Wishing on a dream that seems far off
Hoping it will come today
Into the starlit night foolish dreamers turn there gaze
Waiting on a shooting star
But what if that star is not to come?
Will their dreams fade to nothing?
When the horizon darkens most, we all need to believe that there's hope.
Is an angel watching closely over me?
Can there be a guiding light I've yet to see?
I know my heart should guide me but there is a hole within my soul.
What will fill this emptiness inside of me?
Am I to be satisfied without knowing?
I wish that for a chance to see... Now all I need
Is my star to come...

Another new favorite, since I heard Jackson Browne perform it in concert this summer. Rumored he'll be recording it soon...

COCAINE (Rehab Version) (by Rev. Gary Davis, additional lyrics by Jackson Browne & Glenn Frey)
(revised lyrics performed by Jackson since the mid 1980s.)

Sittin' here thinking 'bout back when
Everybody I knew, was my best friend
cocaine, running all round my brain

It was you take Sally, and I'll take Sue
and if you let me see your coke, I'll take Sally too
cocaine, running all round my brain
Uh-hu mama, ain't it strange
How a mind can turn, and a life can change
Cocaine, runnin' all round my brain

There was damage to the body
Damage to the soul
Damage to the quality of the Rock n' Roll
And the years spent stumbling around
half knowing that something was wrong

And it don't help now, but you can look back and see
how some of us damaged our creativity
And there are good friends of mine that are dead and gone

uhhuh, mmmhmmm, cocaine

Now I ain't saying, it wasn't fun at the time
Staying up for days on end, crazed out of my mind
Waking up in strange places
feeling like the army had marched across my tongue

And look at me now, sharp as a tack
Except for a few billion brain cells
I wouldn't mind having back

Now you take Nancy, and I'll take Ron
No telling what kinds of drugs those two are on
Inner city ghetto children, going down slow
Ron and Nancy wanna tell them
you can Just Say No
Then they cancel the school lunch program,
buy a few more tanks
Uh huh, come here quick
The hypocrisy 'bout to make me sick

Well ya finally get so tired, of walking around
looking and feeling like shit
You decide Today is the day is the day I quit
Till a little later in the evening
You start thinking about...Whatcha gonna do?

But I wouldn't have been a user, even one more day
If you could have shown me how I was helping
turn a profit for the CIA
Cocaine, runnin' all round my brain

I always seem to have a different answer to these ones. But my current favorite song lyrics would be...

100 Years
- Five For Fighting

I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
I'm 22 for a moment
She feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
I'm 33 for a moment
Still the man, but you see I'm a they
A kid on the way
A family on my mind
I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy, Time to lose yourself
Within a morning star
15 I'm all right with you
15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live
Half time goes by
Suddenly you?re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on...
I'm 99 for a moment
Dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are
15 there's still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you?re on your way
Every day's a new day...
15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When you only got 100 years to live

There is a web site called Jango.com where you can put the artist's name in and you can listen to some of their songs. It's a neat site. I sit and listen to it quite a bit onmy computer.

I love the song "Heart of the Matter" by India Arie

"I've been learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning them again
I've been tryin' to get down to the Heart of the Matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think it's about forgiveness
Forgiveness
Even if, even if you don't love me anymore"

I think the lyrics have such a strong message and reminds you that there is always room to forgive.

There is an old time song that has been in my head for a month now.
Rock & Roll Waltz:

One night I was late
Came home from a date,
Stepped out of my shoes at the door.
Then from the front room
I heard a hit turn,
I looked in & here's what I saw:

There in the night was a wonderful scene
Mom was dancing with dad to my record machine,
Only one thing was wrong
They were waltzing to a rock & roll song:

One two & then rock
One two & then roll
One two & then jump
It's good for your soul

They did the Rock & Roll Waltz
