You know, LiamFan, that is what I didn't like I think. It just seemed a bit too easy for him. But I do understand that they couldn't show all the backsliding, that would have been too much. I just about came out of my chair yelling when she found his stuff in the barn, and he'd taken the baby in for a bath. Over all I enjoyed the movie very much. It was certainly better than the rest of the movies I've seen this summer, which consist of ... Crocodile Hunter, Kung Pow: Enter the Fist, and Master of Disguise. None of which I'd suggest seeing even if they were the last movies in Blockbuster. The only other good one I've seen this summer is Lord of the Rings. Oh and Ya Ya Sisterhood.

I'm laughing at your list, Cinderellen!

That bathtub scene really scared me. I keep wondering if that baby is traumatized.

Without looking this up, I'm going to say that I remember reading that the Nashs' son also suffers from schizophrenia.

I suspect that creating a dramatic portrayal of this disorder is difficult at best, so to present the voices that Nash hears as actual characters works well because for a long while into the film, we--the audience--think that these people are real. As a result, we sympathize with Nash.

I thought that Russell Crowe was magnificent in this role.

Good morning {{{{Lou}}}}!

I've read his son is schizophrenic, too, and obviously that wasn't even touched on in the film. (His son appeared in the film, by the way, one of the orderlies dragging Nash away in the hospital (the one on the right, for those keeping score).)

Agree about Crowe. I totally forgot it was him playing the part, which says *a lot*

I saw Nash's son in an interview recently, he looks and acts disturbed, what a shame.

I just finished watching Novocaine, starring Steve Martin, Laura Dern, and Helena Bonham Carter. I absolutely hated it. It was supposed to be a dark comedy, I think. It could have more aptly been titled "The Idiot."

So, like, I saw "Blue Crush" today and it was like totally wicked radical. ;-)

Seriously, the story was lame, but the photography was amazing, the surf sequences were breath taking and best of all, my teenage daughter suggested we go see it together. That's worth the price of admission.

I also saw "Minority Report" this weekend. I enjoyed it very much. I hadn't liked A.I. so I was a bit hesitant but it was very good. Very entertaining and with very interesting filming. It was a good story with many different ideas and layers hidden in there. A lot to think about.

btw.. I also saw a trailer for Red Dragon. That was about all I could handle; the two minutes scared me to death. In order to watch it, I think it will have to be rented, in the daytime, while grading papers, at Lou's house!
