iTunes is a music purchasing service online from Apple Computer. You can get it for PCs, too, though. Each song is 99 cents.

er... because getting them for free is illegal and is destroying the music industry. But that's just my opinion, no judgment here.<g>

I LOVE iTunes! "They" said Apple could never make it work, but they did and now all these other places are scrambling to copy them but I will forever be true to iTunes. They rock, no pun intended.<g>

I understand what you are saying ((((((((((ADDIE)))))))) that free music sites are illegal. But how is free music websites any different from listening to the radio for free or listening to your cd you payed $20 for over and over? The muscians only get that kick back from the orginal purchase of the CD, I am quite sure that radio stations don't give muscians royality for all of it's listeners who listen to their station. I tend to stay away from free music sites cause I have heard that the majority of them are virus ridden and/or pornographic ridden.

The answers are in your question. You BUY a CD for $20.00, you now have the right to listen to it over and over again. You don't have the right to make copies of it and give it away for free. You don't have the rght to upload it on a site so that millions of people can get it for free. They're supposed to pay the same 20 bucks for it.

Musicians don't get "kickbacks." They make profits. The store selling it makes their profit, the record company makes their profit, and the managers and musicians get their piece of the sales. On and on, and etc.

As for radio stations... musicians WANT their music to get air time, that's how people are exposed to the music and then go out and BUY it. The radio stations make their money from advertisers. That money pays for the station, pays for the management, DJs, etc. and that allows them to air the music to you, for free. Why is satellite radio commercial free? Because people PAY a subscription service fee, like HBO or any other pay channel on TV.

Everyone has the right to make their own decisions. I don't stay off of free movie and music download sites because of the bugs. I stay off of those sites because in my opinion it's the same as walking into Tower Records and stealing CDs and DVDs. I know a lot of people who disagree and that's fine. I only have to live with me.

Actually artists do get royalties when their songs are played on the radio. That's what organizations like ASCAP and BMI exist for. They take radio surveys to see whos being played on the radio and they distribute the money to the artists that way. You may not be DIRECTLY paying to listen to those songs, but someone is.

And you paid for that CD, giving the artist their royalties for it, so that's what gives you the right to listen to it over and over again.

I tried that today and got punched in the mouth!

Okay, I didn't really, but the way things are going, I'm sure that would have been the outcome.

Minty,

I'm aware that one person can make a difference, thats why I made the statement. I wasn't however being sarcastic, like the firefly remark, which I take HigH offence to, I think it disrespectful and just shows your mintality.

(smiles@Minty)
Have a great day

Regards,
Firewife

Hey Minty, have you picked up Melissa E's new CD yet? I haven't been able to buy it yet, as I'm extremely short on cash, but I figure I'll pick it us ASAP.
