Thumbs down Women's Network Replaced By Porn?

I am not sure if anyone has heard about Dish network yanking Lifetime off the air without warning but it is very unsettling to me...I feel that we need more womens networks, not less.

I love Oxygen and WE but they are in no way a replacement for Lifetime! I have always turned to Lifetime to address social issues like violence against women, eating disorders, not to mention countless other programs dedicated to womens issues, since I was a little girl.

What's worst is that Lifetime is the #1 most popular women's network and Dish Network still cut it along with LMN (which is #2 BTW) I am sorry to go on like this but I would like to know what Dish Network's REAL agenda is. Considering they kept the 7 porn channels and 46 sports channels, they could have let us have 3 channels dedicated to our issues. Anyone else feel this strongly?

Personally I don't watch Lifetime and the fact that it's owned by Disney and Hearst, ugh. Putting that aside, the story isn't quite as you understood it to be. Dish didn't drop Lifetime, Lifetime rejected the offer when its contract expired. I don't know if Dish set them up so that they would leave, which is entirely possible, but the story is reported as below.

Lifetime Rejects Offer From Dish Network

Sun Jan 22, 8:16 PM ET

DENVER - Lifetime Entertainment Services said Sunday it rejected a "take it or leave it" offer from Dish Network that it had deemed unfair and unreasonable.

Dish customers stopped receiving Lifetime and Lifetime Movie Network after Lifetime's contract with Dish parent EchoStar Communications Corp. expired at the end of 2005.

EchoStar said Lifetime had requested an "exorbitant" 76 percent rate hike, which Lifetime denied. EchoStar President Michael Neuman said Lifetime's demands would lead to unreasonable rate increases for customers.

Lifetime spokesman Gary Morgenstein said Sunday that EchoStar had sought more than a 33 percent rate cut. He said he could not discuss exact numbers in the latest talks, but that Lifetime's request was for an increase of a few pennies per month, per customer.

Lifetime CEO Betty Cohen said the network will organize a campaign to pressure EchoStar to make a reasonable offer that will allow it to return to the satellite network.

New York-based Lifetime is jointly owned by The Walt Disney Co. and The Hearst Corp.

Hey Addie,

Well there has been some misinformation about the real reason it was pulled. I work with Lifetime, so I know the real scoop Lifetime was seeking only a few pennies increase in its rates, NOT the 76% claimed by Dish! And why shouldnt they raise their rates to be competitve with other networks? Addie if you know anyone who cares about this issue you can have them check out and sign this really cool e-card for Dish's CEO

I didn't say they shouldn't raise their rates. BUT, rejecting the Dish offer is just slightly different than being replaced by porn, doncha think?

If you want to raise support for an issue, don't you think that you should give the real facts and not cloud the issue with an eye catching but misleading headline?

plumwino? You work WITH Lifetime or you work FOR directtv?
